The MIFARE Ultralight® operates on the high frequency NFC of 13.56 MHz and is inherently NFC-compliant. Developed and perfected by NXP, this NFC card has positioned itself favorably due to its practical design and cost efficiency. Engineered as an exceptional replacement for traditional barcoded tickets, the MIFARE Ultralight® engages a contactless framework featuring an anti-collision mechanism and supports a communication radius of up to 6 cm.

This NFC card is particularly suitable for applications that demand economical solutions in large quantities, such as single-use or multi-trip public transport tickets, event passes, and certain loyalty cards. Its compatibility with Near Field Communication (NFC) makes it an ideal choice for systems that employ NFC-enabled smartphones for ID recognition. This NXP trademarked chip is also effortlessly integrated into existing MIFARE® arrangements.

Each MIFARE® chip, including the Ultralight® variant, possesses a unique 7-byte serial number. The Ultralight® chip supports reading/writing operations via standard RFID badge readers, and its 512-bit Ultralight EEPROM memory is organized into 16 pages of 4 bytes each. It also includes a 32-bit one-time programmable (OTP) area and 384 bits designated for rewritable user data.

The MIFARE Ultralight® chip, differencing itself from the MIFARE Classic®, appears to have no known clones, ensuring its authenticity. This NFC chip, however, is gradually phased out to give way to next-generation NFC chips like the Ntag213.
